Shaun Ryan is a freelance journalist based in Queensland, Australia. After finishing school in Durban, South Africa, Shaun studied Media and Communications at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and graduated with a Masters degree in 2008. He has print, radio and online experience.
Before relocating to Australia, Shaun was the news editor at East Coast Radio in South Africa. A familiar voice on Durban’s airwaves, he was a finalist in the commercial news reader category at the 2019 Liberty Radio Awards – South Africa’s premier radio industry awards ceremony. After settling in Queensland, Shaun worked as a crime and court reporter at the Fraser Coast Chronicle newspaper.
He started freelancing in July 2020. In addition to freelancing, Shaun launched Good News Fraser Coast in February 2021. The free online news platform aims to break the cycle of negative news and report on good, uplifting news stories from the community.

In June 2022 Shaun Ryan Media launched Find it Fraser Coast – a Fraser Coast Business Directory helping locals and visitors find the best businesses, attractions and places to eat, drink and shop.

Shaun also created and manages @frasercoastmissions on Instagram. The page shares positive photos taken on the Fraser Coast with an aim to boost and promote tourism and interest in the region.
In his downtime, Shaun enjoys spending time with his wife and young son and can often be found building flatpack furniture or Duplo train tracks.
