Chairman of Fraser Coast Tourism and Events Greig Bolderrow spoke to the Hervey Bay Chamber of Commerce recently about the industry’s performance and how it is faring as communities prepare to emerge from lockdown conditions.
I covered the event and wrote an article for the Fraser Coast Beacon magazine.
Mr Bolderrow said the region’s accessibility to Brisbane and other ‘drive markets’ as well as its diverse product offering – including whale watching tours, pristine parks, safe beaches, fishing and diving, among other things – were keeping the industry afloat in an otherwise tumultuous 2020.
He said recent Tourism Queensland data said 43 per cent of Queensland tourists would opt for self-drive holidays in the wake of COVID-19.
Not a bad thing for the Fraser Coast when you consider its proximity to the state’s biggest city and most densely populated communities.
